DEVELOPMENTAL SCREENINGS
(Birth - School Age) To give parents information about their child's developmental progress, refer for further testing if needed and share information and ideas about parenting
DEVELOPMENTAL EVALUATIONS
(Birth - 3 Years Old)
To determine if a child shows a delay in any of five areas: learning, motor, communication, social/emotional, and adaptive (self-help) skills, and is eligible for early intervention services.
(3 - School Age)
To determine if a child is eligible for preschool special education and/or related therapy services.
EARLY INTERVENTION SERVICES
- Educational Intervention
To provide children opportunities to promote learning, play, and social interaction skills.
- Speech-Language Therapy
To improve a child's understanding of and use of language, and help parents learn effective waysto help facilitate their child's communication skills.
- Occupational Therapy
To support the develpment of fine motor skills i.e., eye-hand coordination and self-feeding/dressing skills.
- Physical Therapy
To help children develop large muscle skills needed for throwing, crawling, walking and climbing.
- Family Services Coordination
To provide information, support, referrals and assistance in accessing community resources, and coordinate the evaluations.
CDCNC currently occupies three buildings in three separate locations. CDCNC’s primary facility is located at 2020 East 12th Street. There are 15,500 square feet consisting of administrative offices, classrooms, speech therapy rooms, fine and gross motor therapy rooms, testing and observation rooms, a kitchen and dining room, where breakfast and afternoon snacks are served daily, and large playgrounds, with age-appropriate toys and equipment.
The Child Development Center of Natrona County screens approximately 900 children annually. Referrals are made by local physicians, public health nurses, area preschools, childcare providers, the Department of Family Services, other community agencies, parents and guardians. The purpose of a screening is to determine if the suspicion of eligibility/delay is warranted before proceeding further to formal assessment activities.
Children deemed eligible to receive early intervention services based upon test results, parent input, observations, and state and federal regulations governing developmental preschools, receive individualized program services developed with the child's parents, preschool and evaluation staff, and others who know the child's needs. Children birth through age 2 are placed on an Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) and receive services in their natural setting which may be the child's home, child care, a library or play group, etc.. Children ages 3 through 5 are placed on an Individual Education Plan (IEP) and receive services in the least restrictive environment, most often an educational setting.
The Child Development Center of Natrona County also provides preschool services to children 3 through 5 years of age. The preschool offers a play-based curriculum which promotes kindergarten readiness in accordance with the Wyoming State Early Childhood Readiness Standards. A minimal fee based on a sliding scale may be charged for preschools services. Scholarships for tuition are also available to families.
In compliance with Federal and State mandates, no fees may be charged to parents for special education services.
